Street Fighter is currently enjoying heights of popularity not seen since the '90s, thanks to its new blockbuster movie. It's just unfortunate that, as the franchise shoryukens itself into the sky in theaters, one of its most-played games has been removed from PlayStation and Steam.
Street Fighter 6 released in 2023, and has been praised by many as not only the best game in the series, but one of the greatest games of all time. PlayStation and Steam are, thankfully, not touching SF6, but fans who never moved on from the previous installment may be in for a shock.
PlayStation and Steam Remove Street Fighter Game From Sale
Last week, Capcom announced via X that, following the discovery of exploits in core internet technology, PHP, they were taking down online features from the Steam and PlayStation versions of Street Fighter V. This past Friday, they subsequently made a formal announcement on the subject on the game's Steam page.
However, resolving this issue didn't prove to be an easy fix. After the problems failed to be resolved over the weekend and into Monday, Capcom was forced to announce on X that both versions of Sf5 were being temporarily delisted entirely.
"The security enhancements related to the PHP programming language, content that uses online features is currently unavailable," Capcom's initial X post read. "Content that can be played offline remains available. We are currently conducting emergency maintenance to resolve this issue. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

"Offline content remains available and can still be enjoyed. Emergency maintenance is currently underway to address this issue."
"Until the fix has been completed, sales on the PlayStation Store and Steam will be suspended in stages. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your patience and understanding."
There is no indication of when Street Fighter V will be relisted. There's also a question hanging in there for those who've followed Capcom for a long time over whether the delisting will be temporary at all. Once upon a time, Street Fighter X Tekken was "temporarily" delisted and, five years later, it still isn't available to purchase on digital marketplaces.
For those just now looking to get into Street Fighter following the new movie, this news only further emphasizes Street Fighter 6 as the way to go. The game will teach new players the ropes, offer them endless hours of single-player, and allow them to engage with a very active online playerbase.
