The 2026 Resident Evil movie has had a ton of mixed opinions in the build-up to its release, with many questioning whether it sticks to the source material, and the early verdicts and impressions seem overwhelmingly positive.
Right now, official reviews haven’t dropped. But many have already had the privilege of seeing Zach Cregger’s vision of what a Resident Evil movie looks like, and social media has already gathered initial impressions and thoughts.
Resident Evil 2026 Movie is a ‘Perfect’ Resi Film
Global Box Office is one of the first media outlets to tease its upcoming Resident Evil review, and already called it a 5-Star movie: ‘Zach Cregger’s RESIDENT EVIL is not only the best and most gigantic ‘Resident Evil’ movie yet, it’s also Cregger’s best film, the best horror film of the year and Columbia Pictures’ best film since ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD.’

Expect the full review to go into depth on why.
Zach Pope—a ‘Tomatometer Approved Critic’ according to their social media page—has called it ‘a near-PERFECT Resident Evil experience!’
‘Brutal. Funny. Gory. Completely WTF-inducing. It’s packed with dread, jump scares, Easter eggs, & most importantly, some INCREDIBLE creature designs. This movie starts at 30 MPH and somehow keeps shredding through the gears until it’s flying at 200. It’s lean, it’s mean, it’s absolutely insane, and it’s almost everything I wanted from a Resident Evil movie.’
The film is available now in select countries and locations, and other sentiments are largely the same. It’s apparently an excellent horror movie from start to finish, but there are some suggestions that it’s not a true Resi movie at heart, but ‘Captures the atmosphere and feel of the games.’
Whether it’s a ‘Resident Evil’ movie or not, either way, it should be fun.
