Bill Skarsgård has posted a video expressing his enthusiasm for starring in Hideo Kojima's Physint. Kojima shared it himself on September 18, according to Kotaku. In the clip, the actor said he has been a fan of Kojima's since childhood.
He called him a true pioneer who blends cinema with video games.
The video follows Skarsgård's confirmation as the game's lead during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast on September 17. Kojima announced the casting in person.
He said he and Skarsgård have decided to embark on this new adventure together, as long-time fans of each other's work, according to Variety.
From Sony To Xbox
Physint had been in development with Sony before the publisher stepped away from the project earlier this year, and Xbox then picked it up, according to fictionhorizon.com.
Kojima Productions describes Physint as its third original IP and calls it the culmination of Kojima's 40-year career as a video game creator, per an official statement from Kojima Productions.
The studio says the game aims to set a new benchmark for the action-espionage genre. Xbox is backing it.
Kojima said costume fittings, body scans and camera tests with Skarsgård and co-star Charlee Fraser took place earlier this year. They gave him tremendous confidence in the project's direction, per the same Kojima Productions statement.
Skarsgård's Casting
Skarsgård is best known for playing Pennywise across the It films and the HBO Max prequel series It: Welcome to Derry, where he also served as executive producer. His other credits include Nosferatu, Barbarian, The Crow and John Wick: Chapter 4, per Kojima Productions.
He was most recently praised for his work in Gus Van Sant's Dead Man's Wire. He is next set to appear in Peter Berg's The Mosquito Bowl and Andrew Niccol's Lords of War alongside Nicolas Cage.
Kotaku noted Skarsgård was born the same year Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake released. That makes Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty likely his first experience with a new entry in the franchise, at the time of its release.
He was first photographed at Kojima's studio more than a year ago.
Rest Of The Cast
Skarsgård joins an ensemble first revealed at Kojima Productions' 10th anniversary event, Beyond the Strand, held in Tokyo in September 2025.
The cast includes Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's Charlee Fraser, Train to Busan's Don Lee (also known as Ma Dong-seok), and Godzilla Minus One's Minami Hamabe.
Kotaku reported the game's tagline as "The Next Cold War Begins." Gameplay details and a release window remain unconfirmed.
